Ronald Bercaw
President
Ron is the President of Breakthrough Horizons, LTD, a Florida-based, U.S, management consulting company specializing in World Class Improvement through the application of the Toyota Business System, more commonly known as “lean”. With over 30 years of experience in operations, his lean management experience was gained through multiple enterprise transformations in different industries including custom packaging, power reliability electronics assembly, and test and measurement products.

Educated at Purdue University, he learned the details and disciplined applications of lean principles, habits, and tools from both the Swingouts Sensei and their first generation disciples. Working in both shop floor and above the shop floor areas, Ron has vigorously strived to remove waste from businesses through the involvement and ideas of the people doing the work

Ron has lean consulting experience in the healthcare sector (US and Canada Health Systems including primary care, acute care, and community applications of both clinical and back shop improvement), the commercial sector (administration, manufacturing, distribution, supply chain, engineering), and the public sector (US Army, US Navy, US Air Force including MRO, Pentagon, and Surgeon General Assignments).

Ron is also a recognized author, published in November 2011, with the release of his Shingo award-winning book entitled, “Taking Improvement from the Assembly Line to Healthcare” detailing the application of the Toyota Production system to the healthcare industry. His second book, “Lean Leadership for Healthcare” was published in April 2013 and delivers important leadership lessons in lean healthcare transformation. This book was also awarded a Shingo Prize.
Tapas Kar
Director for India
Tapas, by Professional Qualification, is an Engineer with a B.Tech ( Mech) and M. Tech. in Production Engineering, from a premier Institute, ( BHU – IIT ), and holds a post grad with HR and Marketing specializations.

He is currently engaged in Corporate Advisory, as Director – Client Engagement for India Operations with Breakthrough Horizons LTD, based in New Delhi, India.

With over 34 years of wide experience across reputed companies in executive and consulting roles, he has formerly worked with Global Consulting Firms and works with companies in India to strategically assist them through several HR Interventions and Change Management Programs.

His Advisory is also focused on the development of Strategic Business Plan Initiatives, Marketing, and Sales Strategy Development, delivering Implementable HR Interventions, Implementation of Lean Excellence Programs through Workshops and Executive coaching across several domains and sectors.

In his current role, he undertakes executing Consulting assignments which benefit clients worldwide to improve their Cost Efficiencies and catalyze Productivity Improvement Interventions through specific mandate using Lean Six Sigma methodologies.

He addresses Organizations who have Global Aspirations in Business Excellence and Continual Improvement and keen on embarking on the Lean Journey by enabling Lean Transformation Processes in Organizations to take shape and help sustain them through coaching interventions.

He has significantly contributed to understanding of Quality in Managerial levels across organizations and inculcate a culture of Business Excellence through Appreciation of Lean Six Sigma Tools and Methodologies in Manufacturing and Services Sector with In-House Workshops
Michael Elias
Director for Canada
Michael is the Director - Client Engagement for Canadian Operations.Prior to joining Breakthrough Horizons, LTD, he was responsible for leading the Lean/Six Sigma transformation at North York General Hospital. He developed NYGH’s strategic quality improvement framework that has been nationally recognized for delivering sustained results in areas of flow, quality and safety. He architected the development of a continuous improvement framework with a perpetual capacity building plan for frontline clinicians and management.

Michael has occupied leadership roles as Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt, Lean Six Sigma Deployment Leader and Strategic Improvement Leader. He has worked on the Insurance and the provider side of healthcare in both the U.S. and Canada.

A native of Michigan, Michael has a Bachelor’s of Science from Michigan State University. He holds a Master’s Degree in Community Medicine with a cognate in applied statistics from Wayne State’s School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. He completed his Black Belt certification in 2003 from the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center and in 2005 completed his 2nd Black Belt certification at G.E. Medical Systems. He has been trained by students of the Toyota Production System utilizing the Shingijutsu approach to Lean.

With nearly twenty years of experience, Mike has facilitated and managed over 500 Lean Six Sigma initiatives in areas such as Emergency Medicine, Diagnostic Imaging, Inpatient Medicine, Environmental Services, Human Resources, Surgery, Urgent Care, Infection/Prevention and Control, Cardiac Care, Intensive Care, Community Care, and Mental Health.
